The Green House in Sea Isle City
It doesn't look like much, and as far as ocean front real estate in Sea Isle City, it isn't. Surrounded by triplexes quadriplexes, and octaplexes, the Green House is a tradition that goes back 11 years. It has been a seasonal rental for a group of folks that know what is important. Beer, horseshoes, volleyball, and cookouts are the order of business here.
And it must work well, as 14 people inhabit this shoebox of a facility throughout the summer. And as I found out, anyone that wants to stop in for a visit is welcome.
You can't miss the Green House, especially if you want to get to the beach, as the trail to the ocean takes you right by it. On Saturday, July 1, The Luckiest Girl in the World, the Royal Offspring, my mother, aunt, cousins (yep, my not-so-bright cousin from Dogpatch) and their children hit the beach.
After about an hour of fun and sun, I was in need of a couple of beers. So I made the three block walk back to Aunt Cass and Uncle Art's house. On my return to the beach, I was greeted by Joe, who was shooting horseshoes. "How ya doing?"
"Just great. Perfect day at the shore".
Joe: "Feel free to stop in for a beer if you'd like".
Me: "I just might take you up on that", to which he replied "seriously, come on in".
I returned to the beach and family, and took on the responsibilities of helping watch and entertain 6 children, ranging in ages from infant to 9 years old for about an hour. I had served my time. It was time to go see Joe at the Green House. It was an offer made and accepted, and after all, they were serving my favorite brand of beer - Free Beer!
And as a journalist, I had the duty of researching a story. Yeah, that's the ticket. This was work. I had the responsibility to answer the call. Time to see Joe.
Joe is on the left, and the trail to the beach is right behind him.
I arrived with my camera and introduced myself to Joe. I asked him if it would be OK if I took some pictures, and put them on the web, and everyone was agreeable. But first, where was the keg? Priorities are important.
I met a bunch of the Green House folks, who are mostly from Bucks County Pennsylvania, a suburb of Philadelphia. Steve was one of the "old timers", pictured below, heading for the keg.
