Atheism: Going to Hell in a Hand Basket

The most difficult part of writing this is not in figuring out what to say, but where to start. So much of what Keith wrote in his article, “The Invisible Americans” is such utter bullshit, that it boggles the mind. Let’s take it from the top, shall we?

The turd in his article with the highest stink factor isn’t the assertion that I censored him. That I did, and I will give it due attention later. Rather it is his correlation between African-Americans and atheists. If you don’t see the flies buzzing around that carcass of credibility, then you are pointing the can of Raid in the wrong direction (luckily for those of us with common sense.)

Last I knew, no atheists ever had to drink from separate fountains. Nor did they have to sit in separate seating on public transportation. Nor did they get whipped for breathing. Nor did their women get raped because they were property. Nor did any of the heinous atrocities that African-Americans suffered. When Keith asserts that “we are the niggers of today,” he shows not only his callous insensitivity to a group of Americans who truly suffered indignities, but also his tenuous grasp on reality.

He later claims that atheists can not join most outfits unless they proclaim a belief in “good old God.” Considering there are countless organizations out there to join, I find it hard to believe that over 50% of them require you to have religious leanings. Of course that doesn’t quite fit in with his persecution complex, so I’m sure that was an innocent exaggeration on his part.

And here is another innocent exaggeration. Concerning his claim that when posting on WWWit’s End, that “Several folks were willing to defend the outfit that does so much good,” is another pile of shit. I think there was one person. The majority of the people there wondered what the big whoop was. Just don’t join. They probably aren’t any more receptive to delusional bigots than they are atheists. Why not bitch and moan about that while you are at it?

And here comes the part I love:

Any notes you post on the subject of atheism will be removed. Any responses to those notes will be removed as well. If you continue to post them in the future, all notes posted by you, regardless of subject or content will be removed as well as any responses to you. And if you don't get bored and stop your shit by then, I will permanently block your IP address and you will not so much as be able to read the notes here let alone post any.

Yes, I did post that to him. Unfortunately it is a complete misrepresentation of the posted note because 75% of the conversation is missing. True to his complete lack of journalistic integrity, he excluded all that went before and all that went after, leaving only the part that would sound supportive to his claim that he was censored for his atheist views.

And here is the real skinny: WWWit’s End is a comedy message board. It started as Wit’s End on Prodigy many years ago, and has since gone through many incarnations and online services until it finally ended up on the Web as WWWit’s End.

When Keith showed up under the alias of Dipsey Dumpster, it was a very positive thing for the forum. Here was a good writer that could be funny when he set his mind to it. And it went on that way for a few months. Then, somehow we got on the topic he lives and breathes for: atheism.

In the beginning, the conversation went as any other typically does in that forum. There were supporters and dissenters. Such is the nature of the debate platform. However, unlike most of the threads on the board, this one was not to be allowed to die as all the others did when their entertainment value had worn out.

Long after everyone got completely bored with the topic and wanted to move on, finding no more humor or relevance in it, Keith continued on with what had become his crusade. Not a single thread (and that is not an exaggeration) was allowed to run it’s normal course without Keith finding a way to twist it into a rant on atheism.

If we had talked about baseball, he would want to talk about why the players were allowed to wear crosses around their neck. If we talked about payday, he would talk about why they put “In God We Trust” on our money. If we talked about school, he would talk about why “one nation under God” was included in the pledge.

None of those questions were out of line, mind you, but we had already discussed them. And discussed them and discussed them and discussed them… When all threads had been reduced to Keith’s two favorite topics, atheism and (disgustingly enough) whether he had taken a shit that morning, I decided I had to put an end to it as members had stopped posting anything. I mean this guy wasn’t getting the support of anyone anymore, excluding JohneeO himself, who is pro old, obnoxious and irritating.

Hence I wrote him a letter after we had all asked him to stay on topic. I told him in that letter that I missed the old Keith that was funny and varied in interest, and I wanted desperately for him to pull that persona out of the mothballs. I went on to say that he was, in the past, a valued member of the forum, and I hoped he could continue to be. But, that he was turning WWWit’s End into a graveyard of atheist rantings and that it had to stop so everyone could enjoy the place. It was after that preface that I posted the steps I would take, in order that I would take, if he didn’t become interesting real fast. They were a list of steps, which you probably couldn’t discern from their partial quotation here.

If he didn’t stop the harassment, the first step was to remove all the notes on the subject matter and replies to them (usually they just fueled the fire by calling him a one-dimensional idiot…)

If that didn’t work, then I was going to remove all notes by him, even though at that point, it was all he posted…

Finally, I would block him from the site as a last result. I then went on to say that I sincerely hoped none of that would be necessary, but that was his decision to make.

So, in predictable fashion, rather than becoming suddenly interesting, he decided to play the martyr and claim to have to leave because he couldn’t be where he was going to be censored. This is behavior typical of those without a purpose in life but to piss and moan. Stir the pot until everyone gets pissed off at you, post somewhere sympathetic about how persecuted you were for your lack of beliefs, then hope it gets the reaction you so desperately need. So be it, there weren’t many tears when he left, I assure you. But don’t get the impression that he was booted out. That was his decision alone. He was responsible for the harassment and responsible for leaving.

Keith has all the credibility of a AIDS activist that thinks throwing condoms in a catholic church is going to give their cause positive attention. The approach is not only counter productive to his “cause”, but childish and clumsy in its application. Through selective editing and poorly supported assertions like the African-American analogy, Keith thinks he can gain support and sympathy for atheists. Methinks he needs to go back to journalism school. When you shine a light on his rhetoric, his whole cockroach handling of the matter tries to find a dark corner in which to hide it’s lack of veracity.

I’ll say one last thing in parting. If you want the truth about what happened to Keith at WWWit’s End, then go there and ask. Give his weakly written and misrepresented tripe all the attention it deserves: none. The best thing that could happen to the atheist cause is if his old and tired ass got religion real fast.
